Peace in our time: WRU and Regions strike a peace deal at last

I know I'm a day or so after the event with this blog but I've been digesting the news.

This article from the South Wales Evening Post sums he main points up well:

In my opinion it's a good thing, taken longer than it should to get here but the end result is a good one.

It gives the four regions a footing from which to build and grow stronger, whilst also trying to do something about the flow of talent out of Wales and finally bringing an end to the dual contract saga, which must be a relief to Sam Warburton who really didn't deserve to be caught in the middle of it all.

One thing that caught my eye is how it hands a lot of power to the Welsh Coach. Now the current incumbent, Warren Gatland, is a man that I have a lot of faith in and who is doing a great job. But there will come a day when Gatland stands down. Should his replacement be a bad choice then the repercussions could be widely felt- much wider than previously.

But so far the WRU has made more good choices than bad for that position so maybe I'm worrying about nothing.

The most important thing is that this is all settled ahead of the Guinness Pro 12 kicks off, the Six Nations and the upcoming World Cup.

Interesting times for Welsh rugby :-)

Superleague: State of Mind Round

As some of you mind know, this weekend's round of SuperLeague games  has been dedicated to State Of Mind.

State of Mind is an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of Mental Health in sport, principally Rugby League but there's no reason why it should stop there.
You can find out more at http://www.stateofmindrugby.com/cmspages/

Their work is very close to my heart. I live with a mental health disorder and, though not a sportsman, believe their work is essential and invaluable.
I congratulate the Rugby League and Super League for their decision to dedicate this weekends matches to their cause.

An introduction

Hello, and welcome to the Cross Code Ramblings blog.

I'm Gareth.
I love rugby, in it's many forms - both codes, 7's, 9's, 13's and 15's.

I am creating this blog as a place I can write about both codes in the same place, hopefully saying things that are interesting to people who share my love of rugby regardless of the code it's played under.

The blog is not to try and decide which code is best, but to try and show that both codes have a lot to love about them.

It's worth mentioning that I'm a Bradford Bulls, Scarlets and Wales supporter with a fondness for the Kiwis :-).

Enjoy!
Gareth
